

The main chemical component of foundry-grade chromite sand/flour is Cr2O3. It maintains a stable volume when heated at high temperatures and has a high thermal conductivity. When in contact with molten metal, it not only exhibits excellent resistance to alkaline slag but also does not react with iron oxides, thus avoiding thermochemical sand adhesion. The thermal conductivity of chromite sand is several times higher than that of silica sand, which can increase the cooling rate of castings. Its high refractoriness, low thermal expansion coefficient, and non-reactivity with metal oxides effectively prevent casting defects such as veining and sand inclusion, making it suitable for sand molding and core making in large steel castings. Chromite ore powder is suitable as a refractory material for the coating of high manganese steel and wear-resistant steel castings.
